Salut, les gars ! Nous allons bien et nous sommes très occupés ces jours-ci. Le mois passé a été mouvementé, nous avions beaucoup de bookings et nous venons de sortir notre 8 Track EP sur Fusion et cela marche plutôt bien. Le moment à souligner ce mois-ci est l’évènement Magic City, où nous avons joué notre live pour la toute première fois. Nous avons eu des réactions encourageantes et depuis lors, les choses bougent beaucoup de notre côté.
02. Pour ceux qui ne vous connaissent pas, pourriez-vous un peu parler de vous-mêmes ? Comment vous êtes-vous rencontrés? Quel âge avez-vous? Avez-vous joué et produit de la musique hardstyle auparavant?
Et bien, nous sommes tous les deux des producteurs de musique et nous avons déjà produit sous différents noms par le passé (Lumin8 & Cheever). Nous avons fait connaissance sur la scène hardcore anglaise et nous avons commencé à écrire des morceaux de hardcore ensemble. Elie, 21 ans, vient d’être diplômé comme ingénieur du son et producteur de musique et Olcay, 19 ans, continue à approfondir ses connaissances.
Non, nous n’avons jamais fait ou joué de hardstyle avant mai de l’année passée, après avoir terminé notre première track Sahara et l’avoir sortie sur Fusion. Les bookings ont commencé alors à affluer. Ce fût un magnifique début pour nous.
03. Comment décririez-vous le style Toneshifterz?
Notre style est en évolution constante, nous trouvons sans arrêt de nouvelles techniques afin d’améliorer la qualité et la production de notre musique. Nous ne savons pas vraiment définir notre style actuel mais il est certain que nous aimons la musique mélodique, nous aimons incorporer plusieurs ingrédients dans notre musique, comme de la culture et des problèmes de la vie de tous les jours. Nous ne faisons pas de la musique pour le fait de faire de la musique, notre musique vient du cœur !
04. Vous avez rejoint récemment Fusion Records, un des plus grands labels de harddance au monde. Pourriez-vous nous expliquer de quelle manière vous êtes entrés en contact avec le label et comment vous les avez rejoints ?
Et bien, tout s’est déroulé très vite: nous avons fini notre morceau Sahara, nous y avons ajouté quelques autres morceaux et nous leur avons envoyé le tout. Peu de temps après, ils nous ont contacté car ils avaient beaucoup apprécié et nous ont offert un contrat. C’était super, nous avons beaucoup de chance !
05. D’un autre côté,Scantraxx a signé avec des artistes tels que Bioweapon très peu de temps après. N’est-ce pas une approche marketing plutôt qu’une approche musicale (avec tout le respect que je porte à Bioweapon) ou une espèce de compétition entre les deux labels de harddance afin de gagner du terrain en Australie ?
Pour être honnête, nous ne pensons pas que les labels étaient au courant de ce que faisait l’autre et nous ne pensons pas que c’était intentionnel mais nous sommes amis avec Bioweapon, nous avons déjà travaillé ensemble et nous savons ce qui se passe pour l’autre.
Nous pouvons dire qu’il est possible que nos labels veuillent envahir le marché australien, qu’ils pensent que c’est un bon investissement car il évolue rapidement et que le hardstyle s’y propage comme un virus incontrôlable.
Cela pourrait donc être une forme de compétition entre nos labels et nous avons signé pour cette rivalité mais entre nous, il est clair que nous n’avons aucune rivalité. Il n’est question que de musique, car nous aimons en faire et en produire, quelle qu’elle soit, hardstyle,gabber,house,électro etc. (Soyez d’ailleurs attentifs, des collaborations entre Toneshifterz et Bioweapon arrivent bientôt!)
06. Ces deux dernières années, la musique hardstyle a de plus en plus de succès en Australie, avec de plus en plus de soirées et d’évènements organisés là-bas, et tout spécialement Q-dance qui y prévoit beaucoup de choses. Comment décririez-vous la croissance du hardstyle dans votre pays ? Et de quelle manière voyez-vous l’image de la culture hardstyle en Australie ?
Et bien, croyez-le ou non, mais la scène est toujours assez petite à ce jour et c’est toujours difficile pour des producteurs comme nous là-bas. C’est vrai qu’elle s’étend rapidement mais les organisations ont pris l’habitude de booker les talents internationaux ces dernières années, car il n’y avait que de la minimale et pas de producteurs natifs afin de dynamiser la scène harddance.
Ce qui fait que la scène australienne doit compter sur des artistes internationaux pour mettre sur pied un gros évènement, tandis qu’aux Pays-Bas par exemple, plus de la moitié de la programmation, si ce n’est la totalité, peut s’appuyer sur des talents nationaux, donc ils mettent en avant leurs talents locaux. Nous pensons que cet état d’esprit changera bientôt en Australie, maintenant que nous avons quelques producteurs qui travaillent pour des labels néerlandais. Nous pensons qu’il y a encore beaucoup de jeunes talents qui n’attendent qu’à être découverts ici.
La scène hardstyle en Australie, c’est le début d’une nouvelle ère, tout le monde est enthousiaste et prêt à s’amuser. La scène évolue rapidement !
07. Bioweapon viennent de terminer leur tournée européenne et nous avons pu les retrouver à pas mal de soirées ici. Ils ont reçu beaucoup de réactions positives de la part du public et nous pouvons lire sur le net que les gens sont vraiment enthousiastes et ont envie d’assister à une performance de Bioweapon dans le futur. Que pensez-vous de l’impact de vos amis en Europe ? J’ai lu que vous prévoyez une tournée européenne en octobre également. Quelles sont vos attentes ? Peut-être pourriez-vous nous révéler quelques destinations ?
Nous pensons que Bioweapon ont fait grande impression lorsqu’ils sont venus en Europe. Nous n’entendons que du positif à propos de leur tournée. Je pense qu’ils ont montré ce que valait le hardstyle australien et ont ouvert la voie à l’évolution de ce même hardstyle.
Il est vrai que nous sommes en train d’envisager une tournée européenne pour le moment. Les destinations seront la Belgique et les Pays-Bas bien évidemment, et nous attendons confirmation pour le reste. Nous vous tiendrons informés !
08. Vous avez produit beaucoup de nouveaux morceaux ces derniers mois (combien exactement?) et quelques collaborations avec Noisecontrollers et Bioweapon. Pourriez-vous nous en dire plus à propos de vos projets musicaux et des morceaux que vous sortirez bientôt ?
Haha, oui, nous avons produit pas mal, 30 tracks jusqu’à present, et beaucoup d’autres sont à venir. Beaucoup de nos prochains projets concernent un son plus hard, un peu différent de notre style habituel. Il y a notre collaboration avec NitrouZ (qui vit aux Pays-Bas pour le moment) qui sortira bientôt. D’autres collaborations suivront vers la fin de l’année mais rien dont nous ne pouvons parler pour le moment. Nous vous tiendrons informés !
09. Vous allez jouer à Defqon.1 Festival à Sydney pour la toute première fois le 18 septembre. Quelles sont vos attentes pour cet évènement et avez-vous préparé quelque chose de spécial pour ce jour-là (Defqon.1 dj tool ou quelque chose de ce genre) ? Etes-vous déjà allé à un évènement Defqon.1 Festival en tant que visiteur par le passé (édition australienne ou néerlandaise) ? Que pensez-vous du concept ?
En effet, nous y jouons et nous sommes vraiment excités et honorés. Lorsque j’étais à l’école secondaire, je regardais souvent les trailers et les after movies de Defqon1 et je me disais qu’un jour, j’y jouerais. Cette année, un de nos rêves va devenir réalité ! J’ai beaucoup d’attentes concernant cet évènement, j’espère qu’il y aura énormément de monde. Je me réjouis vraiment d’y être. Il est possible que nous préparions un dj tool Defqon1 mais nous nous disions également que si nous aimons le morceau gagnant du concours de composition Defqon1, nous le jouerions. Mais qui sait ce que nous ferons, nous changeons toujours d’avis à la dernière minute !
Defqon 1 Australia a été une très chouette expérience l’année passée, nous nous y sommes vraiment amusés. Nous avons pu y voir les débuts du hardstyle australien et nous nous réjouissons de voir ce que cela va donner dans le futur. Les Toneshifterz d’Australie nous accordent aujourd’hui une interview exclusive! Ils représentent la nouvelle vague de hardstyle en Australie, avec des artistes tels que Bioweapon et Nitrouz. We just got Toneshifterz from Australia for an exclusive interview with us ! They represent the new hardstyle wave in Australia with artists such as Bioweapon and Nitrouz ! This kind of music indeed grew over the last two years over there. Q-dance has been doing something there for two years and it proves successful until now !Toneshifterz went to Fusion Records a few months ago and lots of their tracks already came out on the dutch label. So today, we’re pleased to get those guys from down under for some questions.
01. Hi guys, first and foremost, thanks for answering those questions. It’s trully a pleasure for us to get this interview with you ! How are you doing today ? Could you summarize how was your last month about bookings and productions?
Hey guys, we are doing great! Its very busy these days! The last month has been crazy, we have had alot of bookings and just released our 8 Track EP on Fusion which has been doing really well. The main highlight of last month would have to be Magic City event were we played our first live set, and we had an amazing response, and ever since then things have been changing rapidly.
02. For each one who doesn’t know you, could you talk a bit about you ? How did you meet each other ? How old are you ? Have you ever been making and spinning hardstyle music ?
Well we are both music producers who used to produce under different names Such as Lumin8 & Cheever and we know each other from the UK Hardcore Scene, we began to write hardcore together. Elie currently 21 years of age finished his bachelour in Audio engineering and music production and Olcay currently 19 is soon to further his knowledge.
No, we have never made hardstyle or spun it before May Last year, which was after we made our first track Sahara and got it released onto Fusion then the bookings started to roll in. It was a great beginning for us.
03. How would you describe the Toneshifterz’ style ?
Well ourstyle, is constantly changing, we are constantly finding new techniques and ways to further imporove the quality and production of our music so we don’t quite know what our actual style is yet but I would have to say we love melodic music, we love to incorporate different things into our music Such as Culture and real life issues, and not just make music for the sake of it. We make music from the heart.
04. You recently went to Fusion Records, one of the biggest hard-dance labels in the world. Could you tell us more about the way you got a contact with the label and the way you joined it?
Well it was pretty straight forward really, we just finished our first track sahara, then we made up an EP of a few more tracks and sent it off to them, and in a short amount of time they got back to us, very pleased with what they heard and they were offering us a contract. It was a great feeling, and we are truly blessed!
05. On the other hand, Scantraxx welcomed artists Bioweapona little time after that. Isn’t this a marketing approach more than a musical approach (with all the respect I pay to Bioweapon) or a way of competition between both big hard-dance labels to gain ground in Australia ?
Well to be honest, we don’t think either lables knew about it and we don’t think it was intentional, but us and Bioweapon are very close friends and we all have worked together previously and we know what’s happening with each other.
We can say that now possibly from our lables point of View, the Australian market is something to be investing in because it is growing rapidly and hardstyle is spreading like an uncontrollable virus.
Yes this could be a way of competition between the labels now, and Yes we are both signed to these big rivalries, but we think between us there is no rivalry, its all about the music for us cause we love to write it and what ever it may be, hardstyle Gabber, House Electro ect.( Lookout for our Toneshifterz and Bioweapon collaborations coming soon !!) but yes I can say that maybe the labels want to gain some ground in the Australian market.
06. Hardstyle music has been growing in Australia for two years with more and more parties and events organized over there. Especially with Q-dance that has been planning lots of events there. How would you describe the growth of hardstyle music in your country ? And how would you set the image of hardstyle culture in Australia ?
Well the scene is still small so believe it or not its still quite hard for us as producers here, but I must say its growing fairly quickly. Australia has been so used to bringing over International talent over the past years because we had minimal and no producers of our own to push in the harddance scene of Australia.
So the Australian scene relies on international acts in order to pull off a big party, where as in the Netherlands for Example, more than half the acts and we dare say possibly the majority of the acts there are all from the Netherlands, so they push there own local acts. we think this is soon to be changing in Australia, now that we have a few producers getting on the Dutch labels, we think there is a lot of undiscovered talent here in Australia to be found.
To set and image for the hardstyle scene in Australia, it is the beginning of a new Era, everyone is enthusiastic and ready to have a good time. Its growing fast!!
07. Bioweapon are just finishing their European tour and swiped at parties around here. They got lots of positive reactions from crowds and we can read online people are really enthusiastic about taking part of a Bioweapon’s performance in the future. What do you think about the impact of your friends in Europe ? I read you planned a European tour in October as well. What do you expect about that ? Could you reveal us a few destinations perhaps ?
We think bioweapon made a great impact when they went to Europe! All we hear is great things about their tour, and great feedback. I think they have shown them what Australian hardstyle is about, and have paved a way for it to become something more.
Yes we are in the process atm of putting together our European Tour, but a couple of the destinations will be Belgium, and of course, the Netherlands and the rest are still waiting on confirmation, we will keep your informed!
08. You produced lots of new tracks over the last months (how many exactly ?) and some collaborations with Noisecontrollers and Bioweapon as well. Could you tell us more about your next musical projects and tracks to come out soon ?
Haha, yes we have produced quite a few, 30 tracks so far, and there’s plenty more coming! A lot of our next projects are going for a harder sound, bit different than our usual style. There’s our Collaboration with NitrouZ (who is currently living in Holland now) coming out soon, which is a fairly hard ep for us both. There may be a couple collabs coming towards the end of this year, but nothing we can mention atm but we will keep you updated!
09. You are going to spin at Defqon.1 Festival in Sydney for the very first time on September 18. What are your expectations for the event and will you prepare something special for this one (Defqon.1 dj tool or something like this) ? Did you already joined in Defqon.1 Festival as visitor in the past (Australian or Dutch edition)? What do you think about the concept?
Yes we are, and we are really excited and honored. While I was in early high School I used to watch the Defqon1 trailers and after movies and say to my self one day I will play at Defqon 1, and this year that will come true for us! I have huge expectations for it this year, with a whole lot more people coming, it should be a great event! Im really looking forward to it.
Haha well, we may prepare a Defqon1 dj tool, but we also said that if we like the winning track for this yearsDefqon1 Producers Comp we will play it! But who knows what we’ll do we always change our minds last minute!
Last year at Defqon 1 Australia I must say was a great Experience, we enjoyed it very much; there was a sense of beginning in the Australian hardstyle scene, and something to really look forward to in the Future! I think the concept is great, and we need more hardstyle festivals like this in Australia.

02. For each one who doesn’t know you, could you talk a bit about you ? How did you meet each other ? How old are you ? Have you ever been making and spinning hardstyle music ?
Well we are both music producers who used to produce under different names Such as Lumin8 & Cheever and we know each other from the UK Hardcore Scene, we began to write hardcore together. Elie currently 21 years of age finished his bachelour in Audio engineering and music production and Olcay currently 19 is soon to further his knowledge.
No, we have never made hardstyle or spun it before May Last year, which was after we made our first track Sahara and got it released onto Fusion then the bookings started to roll in. It was a great beginning for us.
03. How would you describe the Toneshifterz’ style ?
Well ourstyle, is constantly changing, we are constantly finding new techniques and ways to further imporove the quality and production of our music so we don’t quite know what our actual style is yet but I would have to say we love melodic music, we love to incorporate different things into our music Such as Culture and real life issues, and not just make music for the sake of it. We make music from the heart.
04. You recently went to Fusion Records, one of the biggest hard-dance labels in the world. Could you tell us more about the way you got a contact with the label and the way you joined it?
Well it was pretty straight forward really, we just finished our first track sahara, then we made up an EP of a few more tracks and sent it off to them, and in a short amount of time they got back to us, very pleased with what they heard and they were offering us a contract. It was a great feeling, and we are truly blessed!
05. On the other hand, Scantraxx welcomed artists Bioweapona little time after that. Isn’t this a marketing approach more than a musical approach (with all the respect I pay to Bioweapon) or a way of competition between both big hard-dance labels to gain ground in Australia ?
Well to be honest, we don’t think either lables knew about it and we don’t think it was intentional, but us and Bioweapon are very close friends and we all have worked together previously and we know what’s happening with each other.
We can say that now possibly from our lables point of View, the Australian market is something to be investing in because it is growing rapidly and hardstyle is spreading like an uncontrollable virus.
Yes this could be a way of competition between the labels now, and Yes we are both signed to these big rivalries, but we think between us there is no rivalry, its all about the music for us cause we love to write it and what ever it may be, hardstyle Gabber, House Electro ect.( Lookout for our Toneshifterz and Bioweapon collaborations coming soon !!) but yes I can say that maybe the labels want to gain some ground in the Australian market.
06. Hardstyle music has been growing in Australia for two years with more and more parties and events organized over there. Especially with Q-dance that has been planning lots of events there. How would you describe the growth of hardstyle music in your country ? And how would you set the image of hardstyle culture in Australia ?
Well the scene is still small so believe it or not its still quite hard for us as producers here, but I must say its growing fairly quickly. Australia has been so used to bringing over International talent over the past years because we had minimal and no producers of our own to push in the harddance scene of Australia.
So the Australian scene relies on international acts in order to pull off a big party, where as in the Netherlands for Example, more than half the acts and we dare say possibly the majority of the acts there are all from the Netherlands, so they push there own local acts. we think this is soon to be changing in Australia, now that we have a few producers getting on the Dutch labels, we think there is a lot of undiscovered talent here in Australia to be found.
To set and image for the hardstyle scene in Australia, it is the beginning of a new Era, everyone is enthusiastic and ready to have a good time. Its growing fast!!
07. Bioweapon are just finishing their European tour and swiped at parties around here. They got lots of positive reactions from crowds and we can read online people are really enthusiastic about taking part of a Bioweapon’s performance in the future. What do you think about the impact of your friends in Europe ? I read you planned a European tour in October as well. What do you expect about that ? Could you reveal us a few destinations perhaps ?
We think bioweapon made a great impact when they went to Europe! All we hear is great things about their tour, and great feedback. I think they have shown them what Australian hardstyle is about, and have paved a way for it to become something more.
Yes we are in the process atm of putting together our European Tour, but a couple of the destinations will be Belgium, and of course, the Netherlands and the rest are still waiting on confirmation, we will keep your informed!
08. You produced lots of new tracks over the last months (how many exactly ?) and some collaborations with Noisecontrollers and Bioweapon as well. Could you tell us more about your next musical projects and tracks to come out soon ?
Haha, yes we have produced quite a few, 30 tracks so far, and there’s plenty more coming! A lot of our next projects are going for a harder sound, bit different than our usual style. There’s our Collaboration with NitrouZ (who is currently living in Holland now) coming out soon, which is a fairly hard ep for us both. There may be a couple collabs coming towards the end of this year, but nothing we can mention atm but we will keep you updated!
09. You are going to spin at Defqon.1 Festival in Sydney for the very first time on September 18. What are your expectations for the event and will you prepare something special for this one (Defqon.1 dj tool or something like this) ? Did you already joined in Defqon.1 Festival as visitor in the past (Australian or Dutch edition)? What do you think about the concept?
Yes we are, and we are really excited and honored. While I was in early high School I used to watch the Defqon1 trailers and after movies and say to my self one day I will play at Defqon 1, and this year that will come true for us! I have huge expectations for it this year, with a whole lot more people coming, it should be a great event! Im really looking forward to it.
Haha well, we may prepare a Defqon1 dj tool, but we also said that if we like the winning track for this yearsDefqon1 Producers Comp we will play it! But who knows what we’ll do we always change our minds last minute!
Last year at Defqon 1 Australia I must say was a great Experience, we enjoyed it very much; there was a sense of beginning in the Australian hardstyle scene, and something to really look forward to in the Future! I think the concept is great, and we need more hardstyle festivals like this in Australia.
